Johann Christoph Gottsched
A German literary notability, born near Konigsberg, professor of philosophy and belles-lettres at Leipzig; was throughout his life the literary dictator of Germany; did much to vindicate the rights and protect the purity of the German tongue, as well as to improve the drama, but he wrote and patronized a style of writing that was cold, stiff, and soulless (1700-1766).
