A measure of the metabolic and growth state of microorganisms and microbial communities. The energy charge ratio is calculated using the formula: EC = (ATP + 1/2ADP)/(ATP + ADP + AMP). The denominator represents the total adenylate pool; the numerator, the portion charged with high energy phosphate bonds.
