A professional who installs and operates portable field transmission equipment to broadcast programs or events originating at points distant from studio. Responsibilities include:

• Determines availability of telephone wire facilities for use in making connections between microphones, amplifier, telephone line, and auxiliary power supply to relay broadcast to master control.
• Sets up, tests, and operates microwave transmitter to broadcast program in absence of telephone wire system.
• Conducts broadcast from field.
• Must be licensed by Federal Communications Commission.
• May perform duties of recording engineer ; announcer .
• May be designated Microwave Engineer when restricted to operating microwave transmitter.
