A professional who controls charging machine to charge open-hearth furnaces with materials, such as limestone, pig iron, and metal scrap. Respnsibilities include:

• Moves controls to engage arm of charging machine in slot of charging box.
• Pushes levers to position charging machine at door of furnace, to thrust box through door, and to rotate arm, dumping contents of box on furnace floor.
• Withdraws empty box, disengages arm, and moves to next furnace to repeat process.
• May charge furnace with molten metal and be designated Hot-Metal Charger.
