A group of deuterostome animals that includes the classes Enteropneusta, Pterobranchia, and Planctosphaeroidea. The last, a monospecific class, is represented by Planctosphaera pelagica, a planktonic larva that occupies low depths and resembles the larval tornaria of Enteropneusta.
