A professional who assists outside machinist in installing ship machinery, such as motors, pumps, ventilating equipment and steering gear. Respnsibilities include:

• Drills holes in foundations in specified places for anchoring machinery, using portable, powered drills.
• Assists in moving and leveling machinery, using portable jacks, as directed.
• Bolts equipment to deck and attaches fuel, cooling, or lubricating lines as directed, using handtools.
• Performs other duties as described under helper master title.
