A professional who serves food to officers and crew aboard ship. Respnsibilities include:

• Prepares hot and cold drinks, and fruits, for serving, and sets tables for meals.
• Serves food.
• Washes glassware and silverware after meals, cleans messroom, and disposes of trash and garbage.
• Makes beds and cleans bedrooms and bathrooms assigned to ship's officers.
• May be designated according to area in which work is performed or personnel served as Mess Attendant, Crew; Mess Attendant, Officers' Room; Mess Attendant, Officers' Salon.
