A 1st-magnitude star in the constellation Virgo. Spica (α Virginis) is a hot main-sequence star of spectral type B1, effective temperature about 25,000 K (45,000°F), at a distance of 80 parsecs from the Sun (2.59 × 10¹⁵ km or 1.61 × 10¹⁵ mi).
