• Signals spike-machine heater to shove end of heated rod through open end of furnace.
• Grasps rod with tongs and shoves it onto feed rollers of machine.
• Observes color of rods and notifies spike-machine operator if furnace temperature requires adjustment.
• Assists in installing dies and adjusting guide stops, using handtools.
