A relative term applied to sedimentary beds variously defined as more than 2.5 in (6.4 cm) to more than 40 in (100 cm) in thickness; specif. said of a bed whose thickness is in the range of 2 to 4 ft (60 to 120 cm), a bed greater than 120 cm being very thick-bedded.
