Device interface

In the I/O Kit, a mechanism that uses a plug-in architecture to allow a programme in user space to communicate with a nub in the kernel that is appropriate to the type of device the programme wishes to control. Through the nub the programme gains access to I/O Kit services and to the device itself. From the perspective of the kernel, the device interface appears as a driver object called a user client.
